And we have a winner!

Comment #2 was …. Jenny! Woohoo! Jenny’s holiday story was:

My story involves baking too! Hubby and I were watching the Christmas special from the Great British Bake off show, and hubby gets it into his head that he really wants to make a ‘Yule Log’ like the one they featured. So a few days later after watching the segment a number of times over to catch all the ingredients and method we attempt to make the chocolate sponge roll and the gnache which covers it with…. it turns out rather interestingly, but alas we have no miniature robin to sit on the log. Later when I go to take it out of the fridge (where a lot of the far too thin gnache has run off it) I find that in the absence of the traditional robin, one of the boys has sat an ‘angry bird’ (from the game app Angry Birds) balanced on the Yule log instead. It was a laugh and very yummy dessert in spite of how it looked!

Haha! Jenny, I’ll email you shortly and get your prize right to you!

Thanks everyone for entering and sharing your funny stories – I love when you leave me comments and I get to hear a little about you all, too!

Things have been crazy around here lately, and I’m pooped to the bone and need a little time to do, well, nothing much at all, so I’m going to be on a little blog hiatus for a short while. Don’t go nowheres, I’ll be back soon!

Xmas in July Giveaway – Cotton + Steel Tinsel FQ Mini-Stack!

Yay! Fabric Giveaway!

Peeps! It’s a flippin’ giveaway! Woohoo! This giveaway is now closed – I’ll announce the winner shortly!

Ok, so the Merry Medallion quilt is almost finished (last batch of instructions on Friday!) and I hope some of these quilts will start popping up between now and Christmas! I finished mine today, and photographed it ahead of the final tutorial, and I have to tell you: I LOVE IT SO MUCH. So much that I ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO USE ALL CAPS. Seriously, dudes. It is already one of my most favoritest things I’ve EVER MADE. I freaking can’t wait to show you!!

But that’s a couple of days away, so why don’t we pass the time with a little giveaway?! I have to admit, I originally intended on pairing this particular giveaway with another project, but then I went and got a new job (!) and a few of my Christmas in July projects had to go by the wayside. That’s ok, there’s still Christmas in December. BUT, I didn’t want these fabrics to waste away, since I bought them especially for you and everything, and it occurred to me that these four make a might fine starter for a Merry Medallion of your own!

Yay! Fabric Giveaway!

These four fabrics are my favorites from Tinsel by Cotton + Steel, which is my favorite Christmas fabric EVER. It’s just perfect in every way! Here’s a low volume, a red, and a green – and the very same mid-volume (the washi tape print, isn’t it the best?!) I’ve used in my Merry Medallion, as you’ll see on Friday. These four would be a great start to a gathering of Merry Medallion fabrics!

So, to win this little mini-stack of festive pretties, leave a comment and tell me your favorite story about a holiday project. It could be a funny story about the time you tried to make a gingerbread house and it collapsed into smithereens, a touching story about a birthday gift you made that was loved to pieces, or a near-miss story about the costume you just managed to finish at 6pm on Halloween night. Any story, any craft, any holiday!

This giveaway is open to everyone, everywhere, and I’ll close it at midnight (UK time) next Friday, August 7th. The winner will be chosen by Mr. Random Number Generator. Off you go!

Fat Quarters Project Kit Winner! Is it YOU?!?!?

Folks, it’s time to pick a winner! Oh, the suspense is killing me!!!

Winner FQ Book Project Kit

#13, c’mon down!

Comment #13 was by Robin Wilkinson, who, as it happens, is a regular reader of my silly ‘ole blog – and she’s an orange peel quilt-alonger! How cool is that?! In response to my question, Robin said:

Recently I set out to wash and refold all my 2 yds or less fabric stash. I have them arranged by color and I was shocked when I finished just the brown stack (not my fave by far) and found that it contained 20 yards! Between inheirited fabric and gifted fabric and bought fabric, I estimate about 400 yards. Please don’t tell my husband!!

Woohoo, that sounds like a fabric-y treasure trove! But don’t worry, we won’t tell – your secret is safe with us. :)

Keep an eye on your email, Robin – I’ll be in touch shortly to get your prize to you! And thanks to all of you for playing along and seeing the humor in our craft-materials addiction. I promise I’ll show you my own fairly small, but beloved, stash very soon!

Ohmygosh, I’m in a Book! Plus, Giveaway: Fat Quarters by Lark Crafts Project Kit!

Fat Quarters - Lark Crafts - Giveaway!

HOLY CRAP, GUYS – LOOKIT! I’M IN A BOOK!!!

Fat Quarters - Lark Crafts - Giveaway!

Out in the world, in bookstores and everything, is a book with my name in it. DUDE. That’s amazing. I know for a lot of my fellow peeps in this book, it’s old hat, but this is my first contribution ever and I’m so, so excited!

This lovely book is Lark Crafts“Fat Quarters: Small Fabrics, More Than 50 Big Ideas” — a book to celebrate those little pieces of quilting fabric we just can’t seem to resist. Yummmm, fabric pretties! There’s a ton of wonderful projects in this book, all designed to make great use of your FQ stash, by some seriously badass crafters: my lovely friends Carina and Nicole, the talented
Kaye Prince from Miss Print, Amy Friend from During Quiet Time, Ruth Singer – and so many more. Tons of loveliness!

Fat Quarters - Lark Crafts - Giveaway!

My project is a mini-quilt – or table setting / large mug rug – with a row of sweet little appliquéd hearts and contrast hand-stitching. It uses just three fat quarters, is infinitely customizable (a little extra embroidery, anyone?! That would be so cute!), and is a perfect showcase project for those absolute favorite fabrics hoarded in your stash.

“Fat Quarters” is out today in the States and on May 7th in the UK (available to pre-order via Amazon.co.uk) – but available right here on my little blog today as just one part of my spectacular Holy-Crap-I’m-in-a-Book-Giveaway!

Fat Quarters - Lark Crafts - Giveaway!

Lark Crafts was kind enough to offer up a copy of “Fat Quarters”, which I’ve paired with a kit to make my project, for one lucky winner! That means everything above: a copy of “Fat Quarters”, three designer fat quarters*, a piece of Wonder Under fusible web, and three balls of DMC Perle Cotton – you only need two colors of perle cotton for this project, but I chose fabrics that will work well no matter how you arrange them, so I’ve included threads that do the same. You’ll only need sewing thread and a scrap of batting to make my “All My Heart Mini-Quilt”!

This giveaway is open to anyone, anywhere, because that’s how I roll, and will be chosen by random number generator. No hoops for extra entries, just leave one comment answering the following:

How big is your fabric stash – no, really?? It’s ok, we’re all friends here, we won’t tell anyone. And if not fabric, what other craft material do you stash most? What item in your stash can you not bear to use or part with?

That’s it! I’ll close the giveaway on March 27th (end of next week) and announce a winner over that weekend – go go go!

*Fabrics from: Winter Wonderland by Bunny Hill Designs for Moda, Bloomsbury Park for Liberty Lifestyle, and Shape of Spring by Eloise Renouf for Cloud9 Fabrics.

Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day!

Hurrah! Giveaway Day! I love Sew Mama Sew’s Giveaway so much, it’s one of the best inventions ever. Things have been quite real-life-ish around the Button house lately, so this bit of cheerful fun is exactly what we need! Thank you, Sew Mama Sew, for hosting this lovely blogging tradition – we love you!

Ok, so you want to know what the loots is, right?! Yeah, I don’t blame you, that’s what it’s all about! This year, Little Dorrit & Co. decided to try and spread the stitchy love and maybe make a new embroiderer out of one of you – or just treat an existing stitcher to some shiny new toys. We’ve put together a whole embroidery kit for one lucky winner:

Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day Prizes!

We’ve got: embroidery scissors from the Victoria & Albert Museum, a 5″ embroidery hoop, DMC embroidery floss, Clover embroidery needles and a little needle-book – stitched and sewn by my own self!

Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day Prizes!

I’ve decorated it with a little clump of flowers from our logo, and it’s got four wee felt pages to store your needles away safely.

Also included in our Giveaway Day embroidery kit is a copy of our Shakespeare’s Flowers embroidery pattern – five smaller flower patterns that are perfect for any stitchy skill level. The thread above is a bundle of all the colors you’ll need to complete the entire set of Shakepeare’s Flowers – just add fabric and you’ll be stitching away in no time!
